Florida's Agriculture Commissioner touted the benefits of increased trade with Panama but also warned of the downside of the freer movement of goods and services -- increased competition that could eat into Miami's international finance sector.
The agriculture commissioner is heading to Panama this week to see the widening of the Panama Canal, which he said could boost Florida agricultural exports. Putnam also said his department supports legislation allowing tax collectors to accept concealed firearms permit applications. He's also working to create a coalition of education leaders who support shifting energy tax revenue to education.
