Last Updated Aug 11, 2014: Florida has about 25,000 petroleum contamination sites, many of them dating back to 1986, prior to the development of state regulations to control underground leaks. Of those 25,000, there are 17,000 eligible for cleanup under a state program paid for with a tax on oil imports.
