Last Updated Jan. 21, 2014: Inmate admissions dropped from 41,054 in fiscal year 2007-2008 to 32,279 in fiscal year 2011-2012 (the most current available data), though the DOC projects that the prison population will rise. In its 2014-2015 budget proposal, the department asked for 6.6 percent more funding to deal with the increasing headcount. DOC ended up getting $2.3 billion -- an increase of $111 million over the 2013-2014 fiscal year.
