A House panel has already disposed of one perennial, defeating a bill by Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda that would have abolished capital punishment. The third-term Democrat from Tallahassee, a law professor, argued that state funding could be put to better use in rehabilitation, rather than fighting years of appeals by condemned inmates, but the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee voted down her proposal (HB 4005) during pre-session work.
