The Florida Senate is feeling more generous than the House in its proposed funding for the Bright Futures Scholarships despite a predicted steady decline in awards due to tougher standards.
The upper chamber included $291.2 million for the next fiscal year’s budget, which is $25 million more than what was proposed by the House. Rep. Seth McKeel, R-Lakeland, said the $266.1 million his committee proposed was at the direction of the state office of Economic and Demographic Research, which provided that total as an estimate during a March 5 conference.
