The eight lawmakers representing Duval County sent letters to House and Senate leaders last week urging the repeal or delay of a new formula for disbursing funds for hospitals set to take effect July 1.
Six safety net hospitals -- Jackson Memorial, UF Health Jacksonville (formerly Shands), UF Health Gainesville, Orlando Health, Mt. Sinai and Tampa General -- are poised to miss out on more than $290 million next fiscal year under the new formula. Other hospitals, including children’s hospitals, put the total loss at more than $565 million.
