A Senate committee will get the first crack at a bill on Tuesday that would lay the groundwork for the way telemedicine is conducted in the Sunshine State.
The bill, titled the Florida Telemedicine Act, would define how doctors could qualify to provide services via teleconferencing technology if they don’t have a Florida license. Proponents of SB 1646, by Sen. Aaron Bean, R-Jacksonville, say the bill is a good start to advancing the state’s quality of healthcare and meeting future demand. Those against the plan say its qualifications for doctors outside the state could diminish the quality of care.
