Lawmakers from both the House and Senate say they are closer to approving a new agency to oversee information technology projects and set new standards for IT management across most state departments.
The House plan (APC 14-02) was unanimously approved by the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, and would create the Agency for State Technology. The new department would oversee IT projects worth $10 million or more, set new management guidelines for IT projects, consolidate IT functions among agencies where feasible, and oversee a consolidated data center. The plan would move the Northwood and Southwood Shared Resource Centers out from the control of the Department of Management Services, creating a new data center under the control of AST.
