Complaints about water utility spill into Senate hearing as bill passes first stop

A bill that would tighten regulation of private water and wastewater utilities was amended Tuesday to allow customers to petition the Public Service Commission to revoke a utility's state operating certificate.

Several New Port Richey residents spoke in support of SB 272 before the Senate Committee on Communications, Energy and Public Utilities while complaining about water quality provided by Utilities Inc. of Florida. The committee passed the amended bill 8-0.
