Last Updated July 25, 2014: An eight-month investigation by The Sun-Sentinel led to disturbing conclusions about the state of the Jimmy Ryce law; the law institutes “civil commitment,” which aims through a review process to keep the most dangerous and violent sexual predators away from the public after their sentences have ended. The newspaper asserted that 594 offenders were convicted of new crimes after being reviewed and released under the law since 1999.
