Last updated Feb. 23, 2015: Since 2012, a number of casino operators including Genting, Las Vegas Sands and Wynn have lobbied the Legislature to allow the construction of new destination casinos in Florida and to establish a regulatory framework for gambling in the state, possibly including a gaming commission like those in New Jersey and Nevada. The issue divided the business lobby: the Associated Industries of Florida argued that allowing destination casinos could have created nearly 100,000 new jobs and $6 billion in private-sector investment.
