Last update July 30, 2014: Created in 2002, Citizens Property Insurance Corp. is run by a board appointed by the governor, chief financial officer, Senate president and House speaker. The company is funded by premiums from customers, but assessments on non-Citizens policyholders would potentially pay any large shortfalls in claims.
