The Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday amended HB 5601 to add tax cuts favored by the House, including tax breaks for bail bondsmen and uncollectable debt on credit cards issued by retailers.
But the biggest switch was a move to redirect the sales tax on electricity or energy consumption to gross receipts tax on utilities. The maneuver is a way to provide more funds for the Public Education Capital Outlay fund, which provides money for construction and maintenance at schools and universities.
